Dear Mr. Rengasamy,
Please take note the import duties have further been
reduced on 1 April
2008:
- All crude edible oils - nil duty;
- All refined edible oils - 7.5%.
2. Reduction of import duties on butter and ghee
from 40% to 30% and maize
from 15% to 0%. under the tariff rate quota of
500,000 tones. Other steps
taken were to ban exports of non-basmathi rice and
ban on exports on
pulses extended for anther one year beginning 1
April 2008.
3. These steps were taken by the Indian govt to
contain inflation which
hit a high 7% on of 21 March 2008.
