Bumiputera Restriction Removed! Govt. Procurement below RM 50,000 now open to all.

Background

The Ministry of Finance's Treasury Circular No. 8 Year 2004 stated that direct procurement by government agencies for any item costing below RM 10,000/- per year maybe procured from any company/supplier regardless if it is registered with the Ministry of Finance or not,  or if it holds or does not hold Bumiputera status.

However, procurement for items that was valued between RM 10,000/-  up till RM50,000/- per annum had to be obtained only from Bumiputera companies/suppliers that had registered with the Finance Ministry.

Latest Amendments

We are pleased to inform you that the Ministry of Finance has now removed the restriction leading to a Cabinet directive on the  Ministry of Finance, of which Treasury Circular No. 12 Year 2007  has been issued thereby canceling the previous Treasury Circular No. 8 Year 2004 above.

The latest amended circular now reads that for procurement worth up  to RM50,000/- per item per year, direct purchases maybe made from  any supplier/company without any Bumiputra conditions.

The announcement on the issuance of the government procurement  policy circular on the latest amendments is now posted on the  Ministry of Finance's website at: -
